Extra-Curricular Activities

School Clubs

Marian Academy provides many extra-curricular activities and school clubs to ensure that the students have a well rounded education. Over the past 5 years the following clubs were founded.

Badminton Club
The Badminton Club was formed at Marian Academy in September 2001 by Dr. Michelle Ming, along with a few interested students, and has grown in popularity among the students of the school.

Bible Club
The Bible Club was established in September 2000, by Miss Cheryl Andrews and Miss Omewha Beaton. It's main objective is to provide spiritual and moral values to the students.

Chess Club
The Chess Club commenced in January 1999 under the leadership of Mr. Clement Sylvester. The aim of the chess club is to enlighten students in the art of chess and provide them with a forum of cognitive activities. The club is currently being co-ordinated by Mr. Claude English.

Choir
The Choir was officially established in October 1998, with members from both the Primary and Secondary classes. The objectives of the Choir are to:
a) Engender a love for music through singing
b) To improve the students' skills in singing
c) To share the joy of singing in the school and wider community
d) To provide entertainment for the members and their audiences.

Craft Club
The Craft Club commenced its activities in September 2000. It was co-ordinated by Sister Michelle Crawford OSU, who was assisted by Mrs Fayan Maharaj. The main objective of the Club is to develop the creative and artistic abilities of the students. It continues under the guidance of Mrs. Janet Naraine.

Dance Club
The Dance Club at Marian Academy was established in January 2000 by Mrs Roxanne Alleyne. The aim of the Dance Club is to enhance the dance performance of its members.

Drama Club
The Drama Club was started in November 1998, by Mr. Lloyd King and Miss Rhonda Lam. The main objective of the club is to provide an opportunity for the students to develop and improve their theatrical skills.

Debating/Elocution Club
The Debating/Elocution Club was started in 1999 by Mr Riswan Khan. The objective of the Club is to engage students in Public Speaking activities, debates, and verse speaking.

Environmental Club
The Environmental Club commenced in September 1998. It was co-ordinated by Mr. Lloyd King and Miss Omewha Beaton. The objectives of the Club are to enhnace the environmental awareness of the students and to preotect, conserve and preserve the environment through the means of education.

Geography Club
The Geography Club was established by Mr Marlon Innis, Mr Lloyd King, and Miss Tamika Green. The aim of the club is to expose the students to Geography principles and sites and to develop a sense of geographical and natural values.

Judo Club
Judo was introduced to Marian Academy in September 2001, by Mr David Gomes. These sessions are intended to provide an opportunity for members of the grup to regain their skill and knowlege of the sport and hence be in a position to form their own clubs.

Modern Language Club
The Modern Languages Club was established by Miss Candida Williams in September 1999. The aim and objective of the Modern Language Club is to develop self-confidence in a foreign language in a variety of practical everyday situations, and also, to develop a sense of that culture's identity by being exposed to television programmes, songs, dances, and other customs.

Scouts
The Marian Academy Scouts Group was formed on the 9th October 1998 by Mr Mark Phang, who was assisted by Miss Omewha Beaton (Cubs), Miss Madonna Chin (Scouts) later joined the team. The aim of the Club is to execute the Scout Mission which is:
To contribute to the education of young people through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law; to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals, and to play a constructive role in society.

Softball Club
The Softball Club was formed in September 1999 by Mr Lloyd King. The aim of the Club is to provide the students with a sense of discipline in the field of cricket and to expose the students to the principles of the sport.

Recorder Club
The Recorder Club was formed in September 2000 by Mr Billy Pilgrim. After the departure of Mr Pilgrim, Mrs Garraway took over the Club. The students of the Club are encouraged to prepare for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Recorder Exam.

Philosophy Club
This Club was established in 2001 by Mr Nick Austin, SJ . All that is required of members is an open mind.

Writers Club
The Writers Club was established in November 1998 by Miss Lalita Joseph and Miss Miranda La Rose. The aim of the Club is for the students to develop their creative writing abilities and an appreciation for literature.

Volley Ball
A volley ball club was established on February 2, 2004 under the guidance of Reverend Adolph Davis.

Football Club
Was established through the National Football Federation - January 2004

Student Initiative
Under the guidance of Mr. Nick Austin, SJ, Form 3F exhibited initiative in producing a school magazine. They successfully produced their first magazine entitled MAG, The Marian Academy Gazette, at the end of the 2001 school year
